Product
Royaltally is a royalty tracking, reporting, and analytics tool built for book publishers. It ingests distributor earnings reports, matches earnings to your catalog, calculates royalty splits for each holder, tracks advances, generates professional PDF statements, and provides trend and comparison analytics — replacing the spreadsheet workflow most publishers rely on.
Royaltally is built for the people who pay other people: small and boutique presses, hybrid and co-op publishers, audiobook producers, and rights holders who manage royalties on behalf of co-authors, translators, estates, narrators, and agents. Print, ebook and audio, all in one place. If you calculate what others are owed across multiple distributors and send them statements each period, Royaltally is for you.
You can, and some technically-minded publishers do. But royalty money owed to other people is the wrong place to improvise. A general AI assistant has to be re-taught your splits, advances, and box-set rules every period, leaves you no audit trail, and can round in ways you won't notice until a royalty holder queries their statement. Royaltally is that same job built once and kept: your editions, splits, and currencies saved, earnings reconciled to the cent every time, a clean PDF statement each period, and a private portal where each holder can verify their own numbers. No prompts to write and no technical skill required — you get the result without having to build and maintain the system that produces it.
Royaltally has built-in support for KDP (ebooks, paperbacks, hardcovers, and audiobooks), Ingram (Lightning Source & IngramSpark), Authors Republic, and Draft2Digital — plus, for audiobooks, ACX (both narrator and publisher accounts), INaudio (formerly Findaway — including Hoopla, Overdrive, Scribd, Apple, Bibliotheca), and Spotify. Just as important: if your distributor isn't on that list, you can still import it — Royaltally's configurable import wizard lets you map any CSV or XLSX report to its fields and save the mapping as a reusable template. See "What if my distributor isn't supported?" below.
Download your earnings report from the distributor as an XLSX or CSV file (the same file you'd normally get). Upload it to Royaltally, and the system automatically detects the distributor format, parses the data, and matches earnings to editions in your catalog. You'll see a summary of what was matched before confirming the import. If a title isn't in your catalog yet, you can create it on the spot during upload. If Royaltally doesn't recognize the format automatically, it hands you to the import wizard, where you map the columns yourself and save that mapping for next time.
You can still import it. Royaltally's import wizard lets you upload any CSV or XLSX report and map its columns — title, units, amount, period, channel, currency — to Royaltally's fields. Save the mapping as a named template, and the next report from that distributor is auto-detected and imports in one click. So "supported" really means "any spreadsheet-shaped report," not just the built-in formats.
Yes. You can invite any royalty holder to a private, read-only viewer portal where they see only their own earnings, statements, payments, and trends — nothing else in your account. They can download their own PDF statements and CSV exports themselves. You control access and can revoke it at any time. It saves you from emailing statements back and forth and heads off "what am I owed?" questions.
Yes. When you sell through a distributor, that platform is the seller and already reports you a net figure, so there's nothing to do. When you sell direct, you are the seller: the money that lands in your account includes the VAT you owe, and none of it is yours to share. Mark that channel as "Amounts include VAT" on the Channels page and set the rate. From then on Royaltally takes the VAT out of each imported figure before it works out anybody's share, and the statement shows all three numbers on the line, so your payee can see exactly what happened. On a £10.00 sale at 20% under a 50/50 split, that's the difference between paying £5.00 and paying £4.17. One caution for UK sellers: printed books and ebooks are zero-rated but audiobooks are standard-rated, so if one channel sells both, set up a separate channel for each rate. Royaltally works out the split correctly. It does not file your VAT return.
Royalty splits (called "allocations" in Royaltally) let you define what percentage of an edition's earnings goes to each royalty holder. For example, a co-author might get 50% of an ebook edition, while the lead author gets 25% and the publisher keeps 25%. Splits are set per edition, so you can have different rates for the ebook, print, and audiobook versions of the same title.
Advances are set at the work (title) level. When you record an advance, Royaltally automatically deducts earnings from the royalty holder's share until the advance is fully earned out. The advance balance is tracked across all editions of that work, including box sets that contain it. PDF statements clearly show the advance status and remaining balance.
Royaltally supports box sets (bundles containing multiple works). You define what percentage of the box set's earnings should be attributed to each constituent work. When earnings come in for the box set, Royaltally splits them back to the individual works, which then flow through to the correct royalty holders and count toward advance earn-out. This is a feature few competitors offer.
Many distributors (especially KDP) report earnings in multiple currencies — EUR for Amazon.de, GBP for Amazon.co.uk, JPY for Amazon.co.jp, etc. Royaltally automatically fetches exchange rates and converts everything to your home currency, which you can set to USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, or AUD. The original currency and amount are always preserved alongside the converted amount, so you have a complete audit trail. At import you choose, per currency, how the conversion is done: the live daily rate, or a 12-month average — the mean of the rate on the 1st of each month, the convention many publishers use for year-end accounts — with the individual monthly rates shown so the number is fully auditable. You can also enter your own rate. Available on every plan.
Yes. Set your home currency to USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, or AUD in your profile, and every statement, report, earnings view, and export shows in that currency — with foreign earnings converted automatically at the live rate or a 12-month average. (Under the hood, earnings are stored in US dollars for a consistent audit trail and converted for display, so you can switch home currency without ever losing the original figures.) Available on every plan.
Yes. For any foreign currency, pick "12-month average" at import and Royaltally computes it as the mean of the rate on the 1st of each month across the reporting year, showing every rate it used. It's the standard publisher method for smoothing currency swings across an accounting period, and it's on all plans.
Yes. If your royalty year runs on a fiscal calendar — say July to June, or April to March — set it in your profile under Currency & exchange rates ("Financial year starts in"), choosing a quarter-aligned start: January, April, July, or October. Your reports then switch to fiscal years: the year picker shows entries like "FY2025-26", and an annual statement reads "FY2025-26 (Jul 2025 – Jun 2026)". Quarters and halves follow your fiscal year too — for a July start, Q1 is Jul–Sep. Nothing about your earnings data changes; it's purely how periods are grouped and labelled on reports and statements, so you can switch back to a calendar year anytime. The same setting also drives the 12-month currency average, so your reporting and your exchange-rate window always agree. Available on every plan.
Royaltally includes two analytics pages. Trends shows your top-earning titles, revenue over time, earnings broken down by format (ebook, print, audiobook) and by sales channel — all with interactive charts and data tables. Compare lets you put any two titles, formats, time periods, or channels side by side to see exactly how they stack up. Both pages support filtering by year, period, and edition type, and you can export any view to CSV.
Yes. The Compare page supports four comparison modes: title vs. title, format vs. format, period vs. period, and channel vs. channel. Each comparison shows side-by-side summary cards, a grouped chart, and a detail table with the dollar and percentage difference between the two selections.
When you filter analytics to a specific time period, Royaltally calculates growth compared to the prior period. Titles are tagged as accelerating, stable, or decelerating based on how their recent earnings compare to their historical average. You'll also see which channels are gaining or losing share and which title is growing fastest — helping you spot what's working and where to focus.
Account & billing
Yes. The Free plan tracks up to 3 titles with the full royalty toolkit — splits, advances, PDF statements, payouts, and the viewer portal — no credit card required. It's a real working plan, not a crippled trial: a good way to run Royaltally on a few titles before moving up.
There are five plans. Free (3 titles), Starter (25 titles), Growth (100 titles), and Pro (unlimited titles) are the full-feature plans — every royalty feature, including splits, advances, PDF statements, payouts, and the viewer portal; the only difference between them is how many titles you can track. The Analytics plan ($9/mo) is the exception: it gives you unlimited titles for earnings tracking and analytics, but not the payout side — no royalty-holder splits, statements, or payments. It's for authors and publishers who just want to see their numbers across every distributor without paying anyone out. See the pricing page for the full comparison.
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade at any time from the Billing page in your account. Upgrades take effect immediately (prorated). Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.
You keep access to your paid plan until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the Free plan (3 titles). Your data is never deleted — you can upgrade again anytime to regain full access to your catalog.
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details. You can manage your payment method, view invoices, and update billing info through the Stripe Customer Portal from your Billing page.
For 2026 we're offering a Founding Member rate: an annual plan at a reduced price that stays locked to your account for as long as you keep it — even after we raise list prices later. It's our thank-you to the people who join early. See the Founding Member page for the current plans and pricing.
Data & security
Yes. Royaltally is served over HTTPS with an SSL certificate. Your data is stored in a secure MySQL database with user-level isolation — every query is scoped to your account, so you can only ever see your own data. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.
Yes. You can export CSV files from the Earnings page, Reports page, and both Analytics pages (Trends and Compare). You can also generate and download PDF statements for any reporting period. If you need a bulk data export beyond what's available, contact us at support@royaltally.com and we'll help you out.
Yes. Contact us at support@royaltally.com and we'll delete your account and all associated data. We take data ownership seriously — your data is yours.
